| Has anyone else seen this model yet? |
[Dec. 16th, 2009|01:46 pm] |
I had sent for some new models through the mail (my Christmas present to myself) and got a call from them saying one of the models I wanted was sold out. So the lady offered me a different model. She had a few brand new models that she was discribing and I picked one of them. She didn't know what mold it was on so I had to wait to see which one it was.
Turns out it's on the Roxy mold. Her name is Bet Yer Blue Boons and she's a champion cutting horse. She's a red roan Quarter Horse. The model is absolutely lovely! I wish I could post a picture of her! She has a nice roan body, dark head, legs, mane/tail, a blaze and two socks. She did not come with a catalog but I think she may be new for next year. I haven't heard anything else about this particular model yet.
She's also got a mark on the bottom of her right fore hoof that says "VIN Sep09"
Has anyone else seen her yet or have any other information?
I've also seen the real Bet Yer Blue Boons on TV this past year. It was on one of WXXI's Nature shows. Watching her work a cow was poetry in motion. Really.
I just wanted to share my nice surprise. If I can get my crappy little digital camera to work maybe I'll post a picture. |

| Hello! |
[Dec. 12th, 2009|11:19 pm] |
Hello everyone. I just joined here and thought I'd introduce myself and since I saw this meme I'll do it this way.
1. What's your name? Indigoleo will do. 2. Where are you from? Upstate NY. 3. Approximately how many Breyers do you own? Well, at the hight of my collecting years I had close to 200 models, most of them trads. I have a lot less now but I've recently started collecting again and I'm not sure how many I actually own! 4. Are there any other brands of model horses that you collect? I would like to get some more Stone horses. I have a few Beswicks, too. 5. Which is your favorite model or mold? Oh that's incredibly difficult to answer. I like so many of them, the drafters, the gaited models. I'd say one of my favorites has got to be Lady Phase. I still have an original chestnut one from the year they were first released. I have about 7 of them. 6. Which model is not in your collection that you really wish you owned, your grail among horses? Umm...there's several models that I've seen that I'd like to own. What I'd really like right now would be an entire set of the classic racehorses, the original ones Breyer came out with, in the orignal colors. 7. What are some of your other hobbies or fandom loves? Sims 2. I love the game. I also love all kinds of music and have a pretty sizable collection of LPs and CDs. 8.Anything else you'd like to say? I guess not. :) Only Hello again.
1. What is your favorite Breyer model or mold? I do believe I answered this one already.
2. Which is your favorite size (Traditional, Classic, Li'l Bits/Paddock Pals, Stablemates, or MiniWhinnies)? The trads, I guess, because of their size. I also like the stablemates quite a bit. Lit' bits I never had too many of and I'm not really fond of the miniwhinnies. They're just too small for me.
3. Who is your favorite Breyer sculptor? I don't have a favorite, really.
4. What do you think of the vintage models as compared to the newer ones? I like the fact that now they smooth out the seams more then they used to. Some of the older models have some awful rough seams. That being said I do like some of my older models. This summer I managed to get a older palomino fighting stallion (the trad sized one). He's got green felt on his back hooves and tail. He's in great shape for his age and a lovely color. Of course, some of my models that were "brand new" once upon a time are now "vintage" anyway! 5. What do you think of the Ponies (formerly called Dapples) line? This was something that came out during the period when I wasn't collecting and not really paying attention to the stuff in the stores. I have seen pictures of them, however, and they don't impress me.
6. Do you attend model horse conventions or shows? Have you ever participated in a photo show? I used to years ago. Photo showing was great fun and I even hosted a few shows. That was a lot of work but great fun, too. I've been to a few of the signings when Peter Stone was running Breyer way back when. I still have several models signed by him and the special edition horses you could buy at the signings. I have not been to any of the conventions but I'd love to have the money to go to Breyerfest one day.
7. Do you do any horse customization (either from the Do-it-yourself kits or on your own)? If you do, feel free to link to your work. Just before I basically quit collecting and showing my horses I'd started painting a few. I've got a couple that I'm sort of experimenting with at the moment but nothing that I'd be willing to put up for sale at the moment. Who knows, maybe I'll get better at it.
8. How many Breyers do you own? Do you collect only specific horses, or do you collect any Breyer that comes your way? As I said above I'm not sure how many I actually own at the moment. Some of my old models have been packed away for years. I tend to collect what ever strikes my fancy, which is usually far too many!
9. When you get a brand new Breyer, do you take it out of its box for display, or do you leave it boxed for collector value? Since the time I was a child nothing I have ever owned has stayed in it's original box. Nor do I tend to keep old boxes. So, no, all my models come out of the box so I can hold them and drool over them and look at all the details. I never kept stickers on anything, either.
10. Do you collect horses by makers other than Breyer? I have an odd ceramic here and there. A couple Beswicks that I really love including my favorite tri-colored leopard Appy. He was a real popular horse at one time. I have a few Peter Stone horses and I wouldn't mind getting more of them. I wish more places around where I live sold them. It would make it easier for me to shop and I wouldn't have to do most of my horse shopping through the mail. |

I was just thinking about the Brian Kelly Cincinnati/Notre Dame thing. I think it is in pretty poor taste for a college head coach to leave a team before their season ends. His team made it to a bowl game, he should darn well coach in it. It reminds me of the whole Bobby Petrino/Atlanta Falcons fiasco of a few years ago. They both basically quit on their teams. |

| TIGER WOODS REJECTED BY CANADIAN GLAMOUR MODEL LAURA PRESTIN!! |
[Dec. 9th, 2009|04:05 pm] |
|
ZackTaylor.ca can exclusively report that Toronto glamour model, Laura Michelle Prestin aka Miss Prestin had an encounter with Tiger Woods... And REJECTED him!!
A couple friends of Miss Prestin confirm to us that back in June this year, during The Nike Golf Invitational in Wallace, Nova Scotia, Tiger Woods propositioned her during a charity event...
"Laura was in town visiting us before she left on her summer trip and we convinced her to come to the golf place about an hour or so away because we knew Tiger would be there and we wanted to meet him. The whole area was excited because we never get big celebrities out here. The golf place was hosting some big private charity event and since our friends worked at the golf club, they got us in. Once inside we saw him and introduced ourselves. He politely smiled and shook each of our hands. The funny thing is that instead of shaking Laura's hand, he went in for a hug and whispered something in her ear. I don't know the exact words he used but she told us afterwards that he tried to get her to come back to his room with him. After we talked more with him we walked away and enjoyed the rest of the event enjoying the free booze and food without Tiger. Laura never did take him up on his offer, but its kind of funny now because of everything else that is coming out about him and girls."
A quick look at Miss Prestin's Facebook page shows the following:
When ZackTaylor.ca contacted Miss Prestin last night to confirm the story her friends were saying, she said,
"I have no comment."
To further investigate this encounter, we contacted Fox Harb'r Golf Resort and Spa, where the charity event took place, and asked them about what we were told above...
A worker at the course told us,
"Sorry. Nobody will be able to tell you which sucks. Cause as soon as you start work you sign like a book of contracts with the hollywood clause in it. And if you give out info they can take you to court and the whole thing. Sorry I cant be of any help."
The following day (after the event) Tiger told the media,
"What is there not to like? I'm mean, really... I've been coming here for so long and absolutely love it. I’ve never been to this part of Canada before. It’s really beautiful.”
I wonder what the "beautiful" in that sentence refers to?! source: http://www.zacktaylor.ca/blog/2009/12/zacktaylorca-exclusive-tiger-woods-rejected-by-canadian-glamour-model.html |

| Notification System |
[Dec. 7th, 2009|01:15 pm] |
**FINAL EDIT Thu Dec 10 02:15:47 UTC 2009**
So there is the final update... Over the past day we have processed around 11 million jobs out of the 12 million that were in queue at that time. Please bear in mind that over this past day, more jobs for notifications are also created. So while the queue has been dropping, we are still not fully caught up at this point, due to backlog and new jobs. We have roughly 3 million jobs still pending that involve the notification system in some manner. We had hoped we could have fully cleared the queue in a day, but unfortunately we can't clear it too quickly, since we need the rest of the site to operate normally. From our current perspective on the amount of jobs that are left in queue, and how many it has processed thus far, we believe it will take around another 8 - 12 hours to process everything.
And finally some answers to some questions:

| Warm Up To Winter Workouts |
[Dec. 4th, 2009|03:21 pm] |
Outside its frosty and frigid and let’s face it, the last thing on your mind is fitness. However maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle is imperative year round, not just during swimsuit season. “Keeping active during the winter keeps you 5 steps (not to mention 5 months) ahead of everyone else,” Lifestyle Fitness Personal Trainer Michael Price explains.
ven a blizzard shouldn’t be a big enough road block to deter you on the path to becoming a work-out warrior. Price proposes investing in the Wii Fit console as it can be used for exercise within the home and something active for the whole family to partake in together. He also suggests getting creative by attacking full body workouts using your own body weight (IE: push-ups, sit-ups and chair dips). Another cost-efficient mechanism for an at home sweat secessions is the internet. “YouTube, Shape, Fitness for Her and Fitness websites all offer free workout videos and workout advice,” explains Dolce. | Islam and horse torture |
[Dec. 4th, 2009|11:12 am] |
[cross-posted]
On the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha ('Feast of the Sacrifice'), Muslims rejoice for the descending of the pilgrims back down to the earth. While Ramadan is a time of suffering and lack, where Muslims gouge themselves new wounds and cover themselves with blood in the streets after long fasting, Eid al-Adha is a time of fullness. A dark part of it, not frequently talked about with Westerners, is the torture and murder of innocent horses.
The justification for the torture and murder of innocent horses is contained within Volume 3, Book 47, Number 744 of the Sahih Bukhari Hadeeths:One day I was sitting with some of the Prophet's companions on the way to Mecca. Allah's Apostle was ahead of us. All of my companions were in the state of Ihram while I was a non-Muhrim. They saw an onager while I was busy repairing my shoes, so they did not tell me about it but they wished I had seen it. By chance I looked up and saw it. So, I turned to the horse, saddled it and rode on it, forgetting to take the spear and the whip. I asked them if they could hand over to me the whip and the spear but they said, 'No, by Allah, we shall not help you in that in any way.' I became angry and got down from the horse, picked up both the things and rode the horse again. I attacked the onager and slaughtered it, and brought it (after it had been dead). They took it (cooked some of it) and started eating it, but they doubted whether it was allowed for them to eat it or not, as they were in the state of Ihram. So, we proceeded and I hid with me one of its fore-legs. When we met Allah's Apostle and asked him about the case, he asked, 'Do you have a portion of it with you?' I replied in the affirmative and gave him that fleshy fore-leg which he ate completely while he was in the state of Ihram. Unlike the Judeo-Christian methods of animal slaughter which place utmost importance upon ensuring the animal suffers as little as possible, the ritual sacrifice of Eid al-Adha is exceptionally brutal, even compared to commercial slaughterhouse standards. Though the Hadiths specifically mention a 'whip and spear', the practicality has determined a new method for conducting this ceremony. A shafra (a ritual arab knife) is used to messily half-behead the horse. The horse lays there in agony, and you can see the fear in its eyes as it remains there slowly bleeding to death, blood gushing as its throat muscles writhe in panic and desperation.
Don't believe me? There are videos of this sort of thing, though I must warn you that this contains potentially triggering images of blood, gore and animal suffering. I know that it caused me to break down in tears: http://theync.com/media.php?name=11966-horrific-pre-feast
Whenever a discussion of Islam comes up all those who love the animal kingdom have a duty to say the truth:
Islam's founders tortured and murdered horses. To this day, Muslim adherents torture and murder horses. Religions whose traditions include horse-torture have no place in the free world.
There is plenty of other disgusting stuff about horses (and slaves, and all sorts of other beasts) in the Hadiths. They explicitly mention that no charity is ever owed to a horse or a slave. So remember, when we go and invade Muslim countries, we aren't just doing it to spread freedom and democracy, or protect our nation from terror. We are doing it to prevent horses from being tortured to death.
God bless America. Which way, Western man? |
